“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” Karl Lagerfeld
I have always loved clouds - a couple of years ago I made a project of them over a summer. I shot loads of different types of clouds with interesting patterns and forms.
When looking for this weeks quote it struck me that, although this may not be what Karl Lagerfeld was thinking of when he said it, it is perfectly demonstrated in the transient nature of clouds as they shift and change. Once photographed they will never be repeated in exactly the same way ever again - each photo then is totally unique.
Much the same can be said of those moments in our lives that we record with an image - birthdays, holidays, special occasions - some may repeat but they will never be exactly the same. That's part of the power of photography - snapshots of a moment in time - precious or just interesting to us as the photographer.
So catch those moments when you can - on whatever camera you have with you. Sometimes it is not about the equipment or the settings used but just the act of taking the image - recording and preserving that moment!
And I'm still shooting clouds..........
